Gardening for Food, Flowers & Fun

March 2, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 3:00 pm

Gardeners will be itching to get planting after attending the 42nd annual Gardening for Food, Flowers & Fun presented by University of Illinois Extension. This one-day event offers inspiration, ideas, and innovation for area gardeners. U of I Extension educators, Master Gardeners, and other plant and gardening experts will present a variety of education sessions and hands-on workshops.

The registration fee includes lunch, a keynote presentation and attendee’s choice of three additional education classes. Register online at go.illinois.edu/GFFF2019 or by calling the Winnebago County Extension Office at 815-986-4357.

This year’s symposium opens with a special keynote presentation, “Not the Same Old, Same Old – New Ideas in Shrubs for the Home Garden” presented by Dave Wanninger, Horticulturist in Charge at Boerner Botanical Gardens in Hales Corners, Wisconsin. With extensive experience in landscaping, nursery management and currently the head of horticulture at a botanical garden, Dave knows how to break free from the same old, same old landscape plants and design. We are living in a golden age of plant breeding, so let’s look at some of the good new plant species and varieties, and how to use them in the landscape to create an awe-inspiring design.

Attendees will select three classes, in addition to the keynote, to round out their day. There are 12 unique education sessions to choose from including, with topics including the backyard orchard, garden folklore, rain gardens, succulents, pollinators, and more! Some sessions fill early so reserve your spot today.

If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in this program, please contact the Extension office at 815-986-4357. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for meeting your access needs.
