BELVIDERE — Summerfield Zoo, a small zoo that provides visitors with close encounters of exotic animals and rescues, will open for the 2024 season this weekend.

The zoo, 3088 Flora Road, has a range of animals from arctic wolves to bobcats, hyenas, monkeys, otters and Grant’s zebras, among many other mammals, reptiles and birds. It will open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

“We are excited to share our spring babies and welcome everyone back to the zoo for the new season,” Rick Anderson, owner of Summerfield Zoo, said in a news release. “We are also excited to share a new way to visit the zoo this year. There is now a train that tours select animal areas, which will add a fun way for kids – and adults – to enjoy their time at the zoo.”
