ROCKFORD — Walgreens informed customers this week that it will close its downtown store later this month.

Signs posted inside the location at 1201 E. State St. said its last day will be Feb. 19. The pharmacy will close at 3 p.m. that day.

The signs said all prescription records will be available at any Walgreens, including the nearest location at 2323 Charles St.

The national pharmacy chain did not specify a reason for the closure.

The property is still owned by Granite Peak Property Investments, and there have been no recent sales recorded with the Winnebago County Clerk & Recorder’s Office.

Walgreens has nine other locations in Rockford and Loves Park. Store employees have the opportunity to transfer to other locations.
