ROCKFORD — In some ways, the Rockford area’s Google searches this year were much like other parts of the country with Taylor Swift’s name frequently getting punched into search bars.
In other ways, the region’s search habits were unique.
The Rockford area was the only place in the U.S. with “boat trailer parts near me” as a top trending search, according to Google’s annual roundup of top search inquiries.

The California-based tech giant puts out an annual “Year in Search” roundup of the top global searches. It also has local lists with top trending searches across 210 U.S. regions, including Rockford.
Taylor Swift was at the top of the list in trending searches for tours, with Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour coming in second and Drake’s It’s All a Blur tour in third.
“The Last of Us,” a post-apocalyptic HBO zombie show based on a video game, was the top trending TV show.
The top trending “near me” Google search was “air quality,” likely stemming from the smokey haze that enveloped the area in late June due to Canadian wildfires.
