ROCKFORD — This will be the final holiday shopping season at the Kirkland’s at Forest Plaza on East State Street.

The specialty home furnishings retailer is slated to close its store at 6335 E. State St. at the end of January after more than a decade of business at Forest Plaza.

“Our Rockford store will close at the end of January after we were unable to reach a lease renewal agreement with the landlord,” the company said in a statement sent to the Rock River Current. “Customers can still shop Kirkland’s online at kirklands.com.”

Employees were informed of the closure plans last week.

Kirkland’s opened at Forest Plaza in October 2013. The shopping center is also home to Sierra, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Kohl’s and Office Max, among other businesses.

Kirkland’s operates about 340 stores across 35 states.
