ROCKFORD — A new restaurant offering fast and healthy poke bowls made with fresh vegetables and sushi-grade fish has opened on the city’s east side.

Poke Green opened this week at 3053 N. Perryville Road in a strip center near Woodman’s and Goodwill Industries. The locally owned restaurant serves Hawaiian and Asian fusion cuisine centered around fish and veggie poke bowls. More menu options will be coming soon, including chicken and beef teriyaki.

The restaurant is owned by Michelle Lin and Jin Wu Lin, who are natives of Fujian, China, who have lived here for nearly two dozen years.

Jin Wu Lin said they wanted to provide Rockford with a healthy new dining option, and they had not seen any other local restaurants focus on poke bowls. Their goal is to eventually expand the menu and, if Poke Green proves successful, open more restaurants around the region.

You can build your own poke bowl with a choice of salmon, tuna, crab, shrimp or eel and your pick of various vegetables and sauce.

Or you can order one of Poke Green’s menu options such as the sea bowl ($16.99) which is freshly made with salmon, tuna, eel, seaweed salad, mango, cucumber, lettuce and avocado topped with spicy mayo, poke and eel sauce.

The veggie lover bowl ($12.99) is made with avocado, seaweed salad, pineapple, mango, cucumber, lettuce, radish, carrots, purple onion and green onion and topped with mayo, yum yum and poke sauce.

Other options include the surf bowl and sunnyside bowl, and grilled teriyaki items will be added to the menu soon. There are also plans in the future for tacos, boba tea and more.

“We will have more options coming,” said Yichu Yang, who manages the restaurant.

Poke Green fills the space that formerly housed 815 Cajun, which closed a little more than a year ago after five years in business.
