ROCKFORD — Burlington will open its new storefront this week inside part of the former Dick’s Sporting Goods on East State Street.

The grand opening at 6380 E. State St. is slated for Friday.

The national off-price retailer remodeled about 27,000 square feet of the former sporting goods store for its new home, which is a couple storefronts down from its previous location at 6260 E. State St.

JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts occupies the other part of the former Dick’s Sporting Goods, which moved to 6449 E. State St.

“Our goal is to continue to offer communities low prices on brand name merchandise for the entire family and home,” Michael O’Sullivan, CEO of Burlington Stores, said in a news release. “We’re continuing to expand our footprint across the country and are excited to be opening a new store in Rockford. We look forward to giving local customers the chance to discover big savings on a wide range of products.”

To celebrate its grand opening, Burlington pledged to donate $5,000 to a local school through AdoptAClassroom.org. The presentation will happen Friday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
