ROCKFORD — The Rockford Police Department is accepting applications for entry-level officers as it looks to fill more than 20 jobs.

The city has an authorized strength of 302 officers and now employs 281, according to Michelle Marcomb, media coordinator for the department.

“We are seeking candidates that are effective problem solvers, critical thinkers, and good communicators, both verbal and written,” the department said in a news release.

The starting salary for a Rockford police officer is $59,169.

“The Rockford Police Department seeks men and women who are a reflection of our community and who are dedicated to making a daily difference by going the extra mile for each and every resident and visitor,” Recruiting Officer Katy Statler said in a news release. “We all want to see positive changes in our community and now is a perfect chance to join us in becoming that change.”

Last Saturday was the first of six sessions with the Rockford police recruitment team to help potential applicants prepare to pass the physical agility portion of the application. You can go here to find upcoming dates and times.

“While applicants make their way through the recruitment process, passing the POWER Test, the physical agility portion of the application, can prove difficult for some,” Statler said.
