Here are some tips to keep you safe out there:

  • The Snow and Ice app provides information on snow emergencies, odd/even parking rules and a residential plowing progress map. To download the app, visit https://rockfordsnow.glideapp.io.
  • You can also visit rockfordil.gov, call the Snow Hotline at 779-348-7260 or check the city’s Facebook and Twitter pages for the latest information.
  • If a snow or ice storm reaches the point that streets are becoming difficult to clear, city officials can declare a snow emergency. That declaration requires vehicles be parked on the odd side of the street when the date ends in an odd number and on the even side of the street when the date ends on an even number.
  • In general, it takes a 2-inch snowstorm to trigger a residential plowing operation. Each time the city plows neighborhoods, it takes 144 snowplows between 12 and 14 hours.
