CHERRY VALLEY — On Sept. 11, the only words inscribed into American’s minds are “never forget.”

Those words are also engraved into the 9/11 memorial in Baumann Park. Last year, the Cherry Valley Fire Department brought a steel beam from the World Trade Center in New York which sits behind a plaque.

Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. To honor those died, Cherry Valley is holding a ceremony at 9 a.m. at Baumann Park by the steel beam, which was donated by the port authority of New York and New Jersey.

A ceremony will also be held in Rockford at the Winnebago County 9/11 Emergency Responders Memorial, which honors those who died Sept. 11 and all first responders from the area who died in the line of duty. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the memorial at the corner of West State Street and Kilburn Avenue.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
