The Rockford IceHogs are currently owned by the city of Rockford, but that could be changing very soon. The Chicago Blackhawks are interested in a deal where they would buy the IceHogs franchise and also add $20 million worth of upgrades to the BMO. Most importantly the Blackhawks are committed to keeping the IceHogs in Rockford.

This move will also benefit the Rockford Area Venues and Entertainment Authority. The current affiliate agreement has RAVE paying $400,000 per year to the Blackhawks. This deal would not only eliminate that bill, but also provide significant upgrades to the BMO which will help RAVE draw more acts to the arena.

We should have a clearer picture of what will happen and the specifics of the deal after the RAVE board meeting on Wednesday.
