On Thursday, July 16th, the Rockford Public School District 205 announced its plans for those students who are returning in the fall.

The school year begins September 1st but due to the pandemic, things will definitely not be the same anymore. There will be two different options given to parents and students: in-person instruction or full-time remote learning. It is recommended by the district leaders that if your student is in a transition period such as kindergarten, 6th grade, and/or 9th grade, an English Language Learner, and students with IEPs, should choose in-person instruction.

Things you should know if your student is attending an RPS this year:

Early Childhood (ages 3-4): Will be able to attend in-person classes 5 days a week. Students who have medical exceptions will have the option to learn remotely and transportation will be provided for students who attend in-person classes.

Elementary Students (K-5): Parents and students will be able to choose between full-time remote learning five days a week, or in-person instruction five days a week at their student’s zoned school/special program site. For those who choose to take in-person classes, transportation will be provided. If the school does close for a lengthy time, all students will shift to remote learning.

Middle and High School (6-12): Parents and Students can choose to either learn remotely, full-time five days a week or in-person instruction two days each week with remote learning the remaining three. Transportation will be included for those who attend in-person classes. Students will be split into two different groups which will determine which days they would have to attend in-person instruction if they choose that option. This does include special programs at Auburn (CAPA and Gifted), Thurgood Marshall, and gifted 6th-8th.

GROUPS:

Group A: Will be meeting at school for in-person instruction Mondays and Thursdays each week.

Group B: Will be meeting at school for in-person instruction Tuesdays and Fridays each week.

For all students, the district will provide meals both at school for students participating in-person and through a grab-and-go drive up for those students learning remotely

Guidelines have been set by Illinois State Board of Education, Winnebago County Health Department, IDPH, and CDC,  students are enforced to practice social distancing and wear masks whenever possible.

More info on how to choose remote learning or in-person instruction options will be announced later this month in July.
