The city of Dekalb will now be home to Facebook’s 16th Data Center bringing hundreds of jobs to the local area.

On June 30th, Facebook announced the tech company’s newest worldwide data center that will bring more than $800 million dollars to Dekalb.

The Facebook Dekalb Datacenter will be energy and water efficient which will be one of the most advanced facilities in the world with an estimated 100 operational jobs and hundreds of jobs in construction.

The facility will be the 12th Facebook data center in the United States, estimating around 907,000 square feet and will be supported by 100% renewable energy. Once completed, it will be LEED Gold certified and will also use 80% less water than the average data centers.

Facebook says that the reason DeKalb was chosen as its newest data center site is because of its strong talent pool, higher education institutions, community partners, strong infrastructure, and its access to renewable energy. They will be partnering with the City of DeKalb, the Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District, and Krusinski Construction Company to help design, build and provide support for infrastructure in the area. This includes nearly three miles of water lines, one and a half miles of sewer extension, and repaving local roads.

This will leave room for construction workers who will work onsite until the facility is built. Facebook will be hiring for data center jobs which will include security personnel, construction management, technicians, facility managers, engineers, and logistics professionals.
