The Illinois Department of Health has confirmed three new cases of COVID-19 in Winnebago County, bringing the total up to four.

According to our Public Health Administrator Dr. Sandra Martell, one person is in their 30s and one is in their 40s. Details are unknown about the newest case. Two are from the city of Rockford. During a press conference Friday, Dr. Martell stated that this is not just a disease for those at risk or in the higher age range. She added now that we have the order to stay at home, our community must continue to do so in order to flatten the curve.

The Winnebago County Health Department says these individuals had no exposure through contact or travel. So far, 162 people have been tested for COVID-19, 4 tests coming back positive, 116 cases still pending and 42 coming back negative. This could propose community transmission but is still an ongoing investigation.

Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara was also at the press conference and added, “To those families, who have been most directly impacted by this, I want them to know that my thoughts and prayers are with them and that you are in good hands.”
