Full disclosure here…but this article will have taken 2 hours to write because I. LOVE. POLICE DOGS!!! And they deserve all the funding! And I can’t stop looking at all our good boys in action.

(too long; didn’t read version: CLICK HERE to vote)

Seriously…any story that pops up on my twitter (@JoePittRadio) that has the words “K9″ I will read, look at the picture, try to pet the doggo on my phone, read again, tell him he’s a good boy, and try to pet it again.

So going on right now is a opportunity to get our local K-9 units some additional resources and funding. It’s through a little something something called…”The Aftermath K9 Grant.” This grant does amazing things for local police K9 units.

“The month-long contest awards grants, up to $20,000 in total grants, to new or established K9 programs for maintenance, safety equipment, or officer training.” –Aftermath K9 Grant

How awesome is that! And if that weren’t enough, just helping out K9 units, several local police departments here in the Stateline are up for this grant! Rockford, Loves Park, even McHenry are all up for this grant

-Rockford Police Dept.

The grant comes in several levels depending on the amount of votes each department gets. From $500 all the way to $5,000! The best part is you can help out your favorite K9 unit (I’m partial to Rockford…but you can feel different…it’s cool…we all still love police dogs right?)

We’ll get to the voting in a second…I just want to tell you how it works first. CLICK HERE and you’ll be taken straight to the Midwest region voting. Find the department you want to vote for (again…I strongly encourage Rockford…but I’m biased…they have the best dogs) then SHARE your vote on social media…don’t worry they’ll walk you through that.

You’re allowed to vote once per 24 hour window. So, just like they do in Chicago, vote early…vote often, make your friends vote to.

PRO-TIP TIME: You can earn extra votes by following us on Instagram @AftermathK9Grant! Like the daily K9 Grant post and mention who you’re voting for in the comments.

Lather, rinse, repeat for your favorite *cough, cough* Rockford *cough, cough* K9 unit!

Listen, I know I pushed pretty hard for Rockford…truth is. I love all the police dogs. They help in so many ways from search and rescue to, what you probably thought, drug busts. K9 units and their human partners are an integral part of EVERY police departments ability to serve and protect their communities and I really do wish we could give them all the monies…but honestly? They probably would be happy with a treat…the K9 officers…not the humans. I mean some treats do smell tasty enough to eat though don’t they?
